BEFORE DAWN the movie meets . . .Barbarion the band! As if the viking-metal larger-than-life might of Melbourne’s own Barbarion isn’t enough, add The Neptune Power Federation (NSW Lucifer rock), upcoming riff merchants As A Rival, mix in some of Melbourne’s favourite DJs and, ladies and gentlemen, we have a match made in Valhalla!

Australian filmmakers have been doing a roaring trade at the international box office in recent years.
Instant classics have been created with such ripsnorters as the multiple Oscar-winning Mad Max: Fury Road, Wolf Creek and Animal Kingdom, to name just a few. BUT you read it here first – the next one is waiting in the wings.

Melbourne filmmaker Julian Roberts has been working on zombie thriller Before Dawn for the past five years. He has already piqued interest from Hollywood executives around the film’s storyline: A man and his family must escape a ravenous horde of blood-thirsty zombies, while being held hostage by a group of violent criminals in a small country town in Victoria.

Star leads have been secured in Marcus Graham (Mulholland Drive, Good Guys Bad Guys, Underbelly), Samara Weaving (Home & Away, The Babysitter, Monster Trucks) and William Emmons (Wraith, Terminus, INXS).

However, the only problem with filmmaking is that it’s an expensive pursuit. As such, Roberts and his team have arranged a night of fright – on a Friday the 13th of course – to help raise funds to push the film into production later this year, ahead of a planned release in late 2017.

And what better inspiration for the fundraiser than the night where the members of this team all first united? Roberts and his Before Dawn crew all met and became friends while working together in the late ‘90s at GOO, a seminal rock club night held weekly at legendary Melbourne nightclub The Metro. This night aims to recreate the unique vibe around GOO, and all the elements are there.

It’s a fundraiser, but in its own right will be an absolutely special ‘once in a lifetime’ recreation of the brilliant Melbourne night featuring Barbarion, The Neptune Power Federation, As A Rival and DJs UK Pete, Andrew Menner and Grandmaster Vicious.

Friday May 13 at 170 Russell, Melbourne, 8.30PM

AND there’s plenty more to get excited about. There will be art-offs and auctions, prizes for best zombie dress-ups, drink cards and the chance to be a zombie extra in the film!

Tickets for this extraordinary event are on sale now at http://170russell.com/ for $25+b/f, or $30+b/f at the door on the night if not sold out. But be quick – who’d be caught undead without a ticket to this?
