Childish Gambino will no longer be able to perform at this year’s Falls Downtown in January. Falls received word that he is in the running for a couple of nominations at the upcoming Golden Globes, and as a first time nominee and show creator he will be flying back to America prematurely. He looks forward to making this date up to you all in the near future. All other Childish Gambino performances will be continuing as originally scheduled in Lorne, Marion Bay and Byron Bay.
Due to the proximity to Christmas and the requirements for Visas, getting an international replacement just isn’t possible. Falls have instead found not one but two of Australia’s hottest acts to step in and save the day and make our Saturday in Freo a night to remember! Australian legends and prime time psych monarchs King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard plus free-flow hip-hop king Allday are stepping up to the Saturday night party slots, ready to treat you right!
KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD
Everybody’s favourite free-form jazz, funk, rock, punk, psychedelic, folk collective – King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are set hit the stage for our very first Freo show to send us deep within the trip! One of the most prolific bands in recently memory, King Gizz have released nothing short of eight records in the last five years. Count ‘em – eight! The most recent is this year’s Nonagon Infinity, an album which was created to flow perfectly to each following track, playing in a sonic möbius strip. The psych-rock septet have fed the past 50 years of rock history through a paper shredder and seamlessly taped the strands back together in intriguing new patterns. On stage they are a multi-headed, unpredictable beast; chaos will reign supreme.

Allday is leading a new era in Hip Hop for Australia. Having dropped out of art school to focus full time on music, he successfully lived off stolen sachets of microwave rice for months on end. Oh, and managed to drop multiple mixtapes, slide into triple j’s world famous Hottest 100 Poll with ‘So Good’, debut an EP at #1 on the AIR chart (and #18 in the ARIA Charts), and play a whole bunch of sold out shows and festivals around Australia. With new 2016 tracks ‘Send Nudes’, ‘Monster Truck’, ‘Slides’ and ‘Raceway’ he cruises in a low gear, dotted with languid beats and syncopated synths, channeling his inner Drake on sensual, half-sung rhymes.
