NFD announced today they will be launching their very own UNFD Vinyl Club, as well as releasing a bunch of repressed vinyl of formerly out of print titles. The collection of repressed records includes some of the label’s biggest hit albums from Northlane, In Hearts Wake and The Amity Affliction.
The UNFD Vinyl Club is an invite only, (not so) secret society for the most hardcore vinyl collectors all around the world. The idea of the UNFD VInyl Club is to reward the most loyal UNFD fans by giving them access to exclusive pressings of titles. A new vinyl variant will be released each month and each run will be strictly limited to 100 units. Throughout 2016, UNFD have been secretly pressing an extra 100 units on a limited edition variant, and in 2017 every release will have a Vinyl Club exclusive available. From time to time Vinyl Club members will also have exclusive access to rare UNFD test presses. UNFD Vinyl Club will work on a first in, first served basis and members will only be able to purchase one item each to keep it fair and fun.
Alongside the announcement of the Vinyl club UNFD have released the On The Record – A Documentary About UNFD Vinyl, which features members of Northlane, In Hearts Wake, Hellions and Bodyjar talking about their experience with vinyl and what the format means to them. The documentary also features James Williamson, an avid collector of UNFD merchandise who has arguably the biggest In Hearts Wake collection in the world.
The idea for UNFD Vinyl Club is borne out of the love of the sound, look and feel of vinyl. Most of the staff and bands on the label grew up avid collectors of the format, which is reflected in the products UNFD produce. Bands like Northlane and In Hearts Wake have huge vinyl followings, and UNFD Vinyl Club is one more way to reward their loyalty.
“Two or three collectors of Northlane stuff that I’ve seen have literally every release we’ve ever made in every edition, more stuff than even I have!” Says Josh Smith of Northlane. “I think it’s really cool that UNFD actually seeks these people out and rewards them with Test Presses for supporting us which is really cool.”
In Hearts Wake frontman Jake Taylor adds, “It’s an opportunity to have a band’s piece of history, it’s something you can touch and feel and even see a band’s music through the grooves of the record.”
UNFD have also announced they will be releasing a bunch of repressed vinyl of formally out of print titles. Northlane’s Discoveries (2011) and Singularity (2013), In Hearts Wake’s Divination (2012), Earthwalker (2014) and Skydancer (2015) and The Amity Affliction’s Severed Ties (2008) have all been repressed in three different variants each and will be available worldwide. Once these are sold out, these variants won’t ever be repressed again. Heads up: there may even be a sneaky UNFD Vinyl Club repress only editions available in 2017 too.
