The huge build-up is finally over and today, after years of slogging it out on the road and in the studio, Perth rockers Tired Lion can officially say that their debut album Dumb Days is out now.
Many fans are familiar with tracks from the record already, after it was spun as this week’s Triple J Feature Album. Sophie Hopes and Ethan Darnell from the band appeared on station head honchoRichard Kingsmill’s 2017 show this week where they premiered some of those tracks for the very first time and the national youth broadcaster has been giving a lot of love to the likes of ‘Behave,’ ‘Camp,’ ‘Japan,’ ‘Where Were You?’, ‘I’ve Been Trying,’ ‘Hawaiifive0’ and the title track in the days since.
That follows on from the huge amount of airplay the first two singles from the record ‘Cinderella Dracula’and ‘Fresh’ have already scored, along with a tidal wave of praise for the record coming from the likes of Rolling Stone Australia, The Line Of Best Fit, The Music, Music Feeds, Courier Mail, Hysteria andStack, just to name a few.
“Some of these tracks are extremely personal and I’ve never even discussed them with anyone prior,” she says. “It was scary but it all managed to play a part in creating the perfect balance of sonic ear candy we were after with those added intense ‘feels’ we were hoping to deliver.”
Now Dumb Days is done and dusted. Tired Lion, always a scintillating live prospect, are readying to take these songs on the road with a national tour that kicks off tonight at the Woolly Mammoth in Brisbane, before they head on to Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, and back home to Perth.
“We’ve all been looking forward to this moment for a very long time,” Hopes says. “I’m also relieved and proud that we actually did it.”
