Chemicals, the debut album by Brisbane-based band The Rockefeller Frequency, has been a full DIY journey from inception through to release. The recording process took place in the band’s own Basement Studios in Brisbane and was engineered and produced by the band as well. “The beauty of doing it yourself,” says Joshua Eckersley, ‘‘is you can take your time, and try some really weird shit, and you don’t have to answer to anyone or worry about money. You just create art, go about your day, then do it again.

After supporting the likes of Birds of Tokyo and Calling All Cars, The Rockefeller Frequency went quiet for several years before reemerging in 2018. Having time off was rewarding for the four piece, supplying them with many rich life experiences as well as subject matter for Chemicals.

“The album ‘Chemicals’ is something we’ve worked on for a few years now, with some of these songs starting out in a world that doesn’t even really exist anymore, given the current political climate. Topics that only recently seemed like satire have now become reality, and in finishing these songs, they’ve taken on new meaning in the shadow of what is acceptable in society, based on the actions of our elected representatives. In contrast, my own personal perspective was much darker when the seeds of these songs were planted, and having journeyed and grown emotionally, I’ve found resolution for the demons trapped in the lyrics of these songs.”
Joshua Eckersley (vocals)

Album highlights include the tragic and confronting lyrics of “I Told you I was Hadcore”, the high octane energy of tracks like “Sheep and the Wolf” and “Rivals”, and the melodic jauntiness of “We are the Dead”.

Chemicals, the debut album by The Rockefeller Frequency is out on all digital platforms 16th March, 2020
