It’s just 9 sleeps until Newtown Festival shares slices of its huge 40th anniversary celebratory cake. The ingredients for this cake include a packed day of music, art, literature, markets, food, four-legged friends and fun. 

they are giving you an early gift in the form of the map and program times so you can start planning your festival experience.

As the primary fundraiser for Newtown Neighbourhood Centre (NNC), the Festival will showcase the best from the Inner West at Camperdown Memorial Rest Park on Sunday 11 November between 9:30AM – 5:30PM. For an expected contribution of $5.00 at the entry gates, festival attendees can feel great about supporting those doing it tough in the Inner West and have an amazing day out!

 

NNC FESTIVAL SERIES
In case you missed it, we announced over 20 additional events running from September through to November as part of the NNC Festival Series. The series has provided something for everyone, with kids’ workshops, intimate gigs, street art, lawn bowls, an open-air cinema, story sessions and lessons in sustainability and all provide additional ways to raise funds for the NNC. There are a few more left in the series including Circular Living: Sustainability at Home presented by IKEA Tempe and Sydney Sustainability Centre and the Cult Classic Cinema screening of everyone’s favourite home-phoning alien E.T. thanks to Urbane. More details can be found hereNEW ADDITIONS!
YouTube Neighbourhood Sounds 
Come to the YouTube Music Garden to soak up the sounds of Newtown, put your feet up, and take in the local acts playing on the Federation Stage. YouTube Music has partnered with 13 local curators across Australia to create playlists that capture the sound of each of their neighbourhoods, including Newtown’s very own Jake and Kenny from Mary’s.

Better Read Than Dead is a literary landmark that has thrived in the heart of Newtown’s King Street for over two decades, nourishing the neighbourhood with a specially curated collection of books and regular author and community events. This team of dedicated book lovers have kindly donated their time and expertise to deliver you a program that brings together some of Australia’s leading writers that will delight adults and children alike!

COMMUNE 
COMMUNE is Newtown’s co-working space fostering community, creativity, and collaboration and they’re bringing a slice of their programming to Newtown Festival offering a place to chill out and connect with others. There will be delicious vegan food stalls and kombucha on tap, as well as free yogadance and creative workshops running all day. 

ECO VILLAGE
Curated by Sydney Sustainability Centre, the Eco Village will offer a full program of discussions and workshops; from learning what small steps you can take in your day-to-day life to progress your journey towards a more sustainable home, to increasing your understanding of current, global environmental issues.

You can do your part on the day to assist us in diverting as much waste as possible from landfill by placing your compostable plates, cutlery and any leftover food into one of the food waste bins located around the Festival site, or take them over to the friendly Eco Village team where they will happily take them and answer any of your composting or worm farming questions!

FOOD AND MARKET STALLS
There will be a plethora of stalls scattered throughout the Festival site, with local businesses, designers and creators selling food and beverages from around the world, general merchandise, fair trade goods and handmade arts and crafts. There’s sure to be something for everyone! 

HEAPS GAY KARAOKE CLOSET 
Start singing in the shower… Inner West party starters Heaps Gay are back with their Karaoke Closet at Newtown Festival 2018! Located near the Newtown Locals, step into their tropical love den to sing, dance and party with the Qweens! Love song dedications and queer bangers are 100% encouraged.

KIDS ZONE PRESENTED BY SYDNEY AIRPORT 
Alongside the Young Hearts Stage, the Kids Zone is a place for imaginative minds to create and learn! Join Guwaali for DIY boomerang painting, turn your thumbs green with composting and gardening workshops by Pocket City Farms or learn how to program and race ‘Ozbots’, pocket sized coding robots with Newtown Library. There will be carnival rides, face painting and plenty of activities to entertain the entire family!LIVE MUSIC 
This year’s line up offers a diverse array of local artists who have a strong connection with Newtown and the Inner West community. We’re excited to welcome back some Newtown Festival alumni, as well as showcase emerging talent and some of our favourite local sweethearts.

NEWTOWN LOCALS 
Newtown Locals are a collective of businesses founded on the united commitment to give back to the community who support them.  The crew are back again for another year, bringing outstanding talent together in one place, at one time, offering unique and affordable dishes and drinks for all to enjoy, for a fantastic cause. This eclectic posse of Newtown’s hospitality elite are taking over the corner of Federation Road and Church Street to cook up a storm, offering both meat and vegetarian options designed especially for festival goers. This year’s festival crew includes; Bloodwood, Continental Deli and Bistro, Mary’s, Rising Sun Workshop, and Young Henrys.

SASSY TREATS DOG SHOW
Our good friends at Sassy Treats are back again to host the 2018 Annual Dog Show and your pooch is invited to be a part of the action! With a range of categories on day including Most Unique, Doggie Dash, Celebrity Look-a-Like and of course Champion BFFF (Best Furry Friend Forever), your pooch is sure to take home a prize.  All proceeds from the dog show registration directly support the programs and services provided by the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre. ENTRY CONTRIBUTION FOR 2018
As per 2017, the expected contribution of $5.00 will be in place at the festival this year, bringing the community together to show their generosity and raise funds for those in need. Those contributing $10.00 or more will receive a Newtown Festival eco-friendly water bottle.
 
All contributions received through Newtown Festival go directly to Newtown Neighbourhood Centre and the people, programs and services it provides, so please give generously!
