Presenting ‘Corpus I’ – a collection of songs from New York hardcore 3-piece Show Me The Body, out now. Recorded off the back the band’s world tour for their debut album ‘Body War’, the mixtape features the likes of Denzel Curry, Princess Nokia, Eartheater and more. To coincide with the release, the band have also unveiled a music video for ‘Corpus I’ track ‘Trash’.
After leaving NYC in 2016 for the first time to tour ‘Body War’, Show Me The Body returned to a very different city. DIY venues had been shuttered by police. Promoters who used to fight for the scene, now fought for turf and money. Show Me The Body somehow finagled a free studio in the West Village for two months. They decided to hold a residency of 5 shows sprinkled around the 5 boroughs to celebrate their scene, showcase friends and share a stage artists they respected and grew up on – artists like Haxan Cloak, Wolf Eyes, Princess Nokia, Retox, Denzel Curry and others came through.
With family in town and a free studio, they started to invite artists in, experimenting and writing and producing tracks on the spot. They were honoring their community and scene by making music. They invited illustrators, photographers and filmmakers to document it, providing an outlet for creative expression in all forms. What emerges is a document of sound and visuals that represents the scene that Show Me The Body has cultivated and built since they were teenagers. Something that represents a movement in NYC that counters gentrification and displacement, resists the forces rallying against DIY culture and is good to listen to as well.
