Sydney pop punkers Stand Atlantic have just released their impressive new EP Sidewinder via Rude Records. After winning over crowds all across Australia supporting New Found Glory and with the release of their super catchy EP we think it’s not long until the rest of the world catches on. We caught up with vocalist Bonnie Fraser as she gives us a track by track rundown of the Sidewinder EP.

Firstly how was the experience of touring around Australia with New Found Glory recently? Did you learn anything from watching them on stage every night?

Bonnie Fraser
It was so surreal! They absolutely killed it on stage every night and played a 2 hour set with hardly any breaks so it was definitely a huge eye opener for us and made us want to work even harder. On top of that, they are such nice dudes!

SCENEzine
We’ve been lucky enough to hear your new EP Sidewinder, it sounds awesome. You must be stoked with how it’s turned out?

Bonnie Fraser
Thank you! Yeah we are really proud of it, we worked really hard on it and we’re just so happy people are resonating with it.

SCENEzine
Could you give us a bit of a track by track rundown of what the songs are about? Starting with Sidewinder?

Bonnie Fraser
Sidewinder is about acknowledging differences between you and someone you care about, and a reminder not to change yourself to try and fix something you cant.

SCENEzine
Mess I Made?

Bonnie Fraser
Making mistakes and realising you’re the only one who can fix them.

SCENEzine
Push?

Bonnie Fraser
Feeling second best to someone you put always put first.

SCENEzine
Coffee At Midnight?

Bonnie Fraser
This song is a combination of two mindsets, trying so hard to cling onto something that’s slipping away vs when you finally let go and wonder why you were so desperate to hold onto it in the first place.

SCENEzine
Chemicals?

Bonnie Fraser
Fuck other peoples opinions, do what you want to do in life – people will always find something negative to say about literally anything so why bother doing what they want you to do?

SCENEzine
Was it a hard process culling songs you’ve written down to 5 to record for the EP?

Bonnie Fraser
There are still a couple of ideas I have that didn’t make it onto the EP that I’d like to use in future, but yeah it can be tough when you’ve gotten attached to songs you’ve written that mean a lot to you. I just make a point not to be so precious with them because it just hinders everything, I’d much rather listen to someone I trust who knows what they’re talking about and is listening with fresh ears. Plus anything I’m that attached to can just be used later, so it’s never really a waste! Having said that though, I will definitely fight for something if I truly back it.

SCENEzine
When your not playing music what do you like to do for fun?

Bonnie Fraser
I get asked this question a lot and I still don’t really have an answer for it! haha. If we’re not playing music I like writing or just playing/singing for the fun of it, other than that I’m hanging out with friends or watching stupid YouTube videos of people finding bugs in their ears.

SCENEzine
Lastly what does the future hold for Stand Atlantic? Touring the globe? Writing a full length?

Bonnie Fraser
Both are what we’d love to do, we’re working hard to be able to do them so I wouldn’t be suprised if at least one of them happens in the near future!
