Following on from the critically-praised debut ‘Let Me Rust’, Perth-based melodic-punk group Onslow have returned with a sizeable new single, ‘Gauze’ and announced their debut self-titled EP – produced and mixed by Matthew Templeman (Make Them SufferVoyagerStatues).

Taking cues from emo heavyweights AlkalineTrio and Basement, ‘Gauze’ dynamically surges with compelling guitar riffs and rhythmic affiliation, showcasing the group’s spirited capacities while the track’s resonant melody is piloted by frontman Sean Harmanis. A stadium-sized chorus compliments the song’s structure, while the lyrics charge into a profound subject matter.

Harmanis talks about the inspiration behind ‘Gauze’:

“’Gauze’ to me is a self-help anthem. The song preaches to not judge or fixate on others accomplishments. Be happy for them because you’d want them to do the same for you when one day you decide to take a plunge. In a greater sense, the song is about mental illness and the fear that many with depression and anxiety experience. Fear of doing something big, fear of meeting someone, even fear of leaving the house or getting out of bed. These are all genuine and normal feelings, and I think more open conversations about these need to be encouraged.”
