As Groovin The Moo makes its annual pilgrimage to venues across Regional Australia, us city folk are lucky enough to catch some of the great artists from this year’s line up in the form of sideshows. Tonight, I am lucky enough to catch German duo Milky Chance with the incredible Amy Shark as support, wow what a night it is going to be.

I am also lucky enough to find a parking space in the densely packed urban streets of Enmore and I make my way to the theatre hoping to be on time for Amy Shark. Man, the line to get in is huge. So many beautiful people all lining up outside the Enmore Theatre to catch the sensational songstress that is Amy Shark.

Barely making it in the door on time as she walks out on stage looking so cool and casually sexy in her tight jeans and Adidas jacket, this girl has full on caught me in a tractor beam. But I am not caught up in the way she looks, it is her voice that has me held prisoner and the way she presents herself on stage. Amy just comes across with such honesty and humbleness it’s hard to believe she has only been on the scene for such a short time. She just carries herself along effortlessly, with great tunes as well. Oh, did I forget to mention this girl can play guitar. When she did, she dropped on us an older release of Spits On Girls mixed up with a cover of Eminem’s Superman. Wow just Wow!

All good things must come to an end. We get her biggest back to back first, Weekends and then the show stopper Adore, which had the whole crowd just stunned. I so look forward to catching her on her own headline solo show. That’s for sure.

After composing myself from being bathed in the splendour of Amy Shark, it was time to get grooving to the funky tunes of Germanys powerhouse folk group Milky Chance. Man, these guys can do no wrong from what I can tell. A sold-out show at The Enmore, their tracks ripping up the airwaves, and from just having a few conversations at the bar I found out there are a few fans from all around the world in the audience tonight. If I wasn’t excited before, the girls I met at the bar have me more so now. Before they take to the stage, a chant breaks out ‘we want Milky Chance, we want Milky Chance.’

The show opens at a fevers pace with Clouds, taken from the new album Blossom. From its opening beat, everyone is up on their feet grooving away. The duo themselves are more than two as we also have guitarist Antonio Gregeris on
stage (they added Gregarisis as a third member of the group in 2015) and a touring percussionist whose bongo skills really must be admired. Two things grab me straight away. One is frontman Clemens Rehbein’s vocals that are so clean and clear, the other is the light show. I love how I look out over the audience and we seemed bathed in a purple and pinkish haze, it created a wonderful magical feel for the entire set tonight as we sang and danced the night away.

Blossom may have only been released a few weeks ago, but most of the set list was made up with songs off the album and the crowd sang along and were loving every minute of it. Like these guys were performing Doing Good and when Flashed Junk Mind started up things became more than fired up as the distinct smell of weed sparked up. The whole Enmore also became lit up from the back light of almost 2000 cell phones that were whipped out capturing the moment.

Clemens would later talk to the audience and describe the feelings that were put in when he wrote the song About Love and when he then performed the song, the power and emotion on display was very moving indeed. With the thud of the drum beat, the harmonica solo and the dazzling array of light I was left with goose bumps. The tracks end was met with thunderous applause and it was one those ‘man you just had to be there’ live music moments.

You could sense things were nearing their end when they played the lead single Coccoon. The energy in the room was lifted enormously and they would use it to cap off the set. The encore break was short lived as I ran back from the bar line to witness my favourite track Sweet Dance. I thought things could get no better, but straight after they bought out Kim Churchill and finished things off with a harmonica on the track Sweet Sun.
