It was a sweltering hot day in Sydney and as the afternoon approached thousands of Coldplay fans descended into Moore Park to see the beloved Brits playing their first of two nights at Allianz stadium. The night felt less like a Tuesday and more like a Friday as Sydney siders were buzzing with excitement for Coldplay’s impending arrival.

With fans all given wristbands that would later light up and the stage having a huge runway you could tell the production value for the concert would be no less than outstanding. After a short wait my suspicions were confirmed outstanding become an understatement as Chris and the boys burst onto the stage through huge cheers from the crowd.

The concert had everything you could possibly want from truly impressive lighting shows to a range of songs delving into their sixteen year musical career to keep all fans happy. Chris made use of the runway as he would come out closer to the crowd all whilst streamer cannons would shoot colour into the air.

Many stadium gigs can sometimes feel impersonal but Chris managed to connect with every audience member as they would dance with pure energy to the upbeat songs then hang on every word during the heartfelt ballads. Their was a vast array of ages throughout the audience proving a band like Coldplay has the ability to cross generations. This was in no way a concert that just involved a band playing their songs and walking off. Chris would stop between songs to show his genuine appreciation as he looked like their was nowhere he’d rather be than on stage.

Whilst watching Coldplay live you are reminded of how many truly well crafted anthems they have. The Sydney crowd was in full voice the whole night providing backing vocals that echoed through the stadium. There’s just something about thousands of people coming together for their shared love of music that is truly a sight to behold.

The huge setlist comprised of many crowd favourites like “yellow”, “clocks” and “the scientist”. They also covered the David Bowie classic “Heroes” giving a nod to the great man that we sadly lost in 2016. They even played a couple of bars from John Farnham’s “you’re the voice” showing a great knowledge of Australian anthems.

The night would end with a literal bang as fireworks light up over Sydney’s Moore Park as if it was a preview of New Years Eve celebrations. Finishing up the set with “A sky full of stars”, “up & up” then the highly appropriate “Christmas lights”. For the thousands in attendance this was truly a magical night.

Tickets are still available for the remaining show date –
