After his band established themselves as one of the most exciting new voices of rock in 2016, Beach Slang‘s James Alex has now announced he’s ready to show fans a new side of his music with the release of his new “Quiet Slang” EP, We Were Babies & We Were Dirtbags out October 20.

The EP was announced with a cover of his own song ‘Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas’ from Beach Slang’s breakout album The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us, indicating the tender and intimate nature of this special new project that features Alex playing solo with a contributing pianist and cellist.

Speaking of his decision to make this “Quiet Slang” EP, Alex says, “I suppose we’re all chasing something that resembles salvation, something that calms our bones. Maybe this is some small slice of that. Maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s chaos in soft clothes. Maybe it’s frightened. Maybe it’s fearless. Maybe it’s both. Or maybe it’s nothing. I don’t know, but I think about this: one day I’m going to be dust. And when my soul splits, maybe this will be the thing that sneaks me through the gates. If not, well, those are the breaks.”

We Were Babies & We Were Dirtbags includes two covers of Alex’s own music, as well as a cover of The Replacements’ ‘Androgynous’ alongside Big Star’s ‘Thirteen,.
