Today New Zealand’s Wax Chattels release their cathartic sophomore album, Clot.

Clot’s inspiration — or, rather, frustration — came from the doomy, gloomy corners of Auckland’s underbelly, and the theme of confrontation is central. With singles like “Cede” about an indignant confrontation of Cross-Strait relations and self-determination, and  “No Ties,” a melodic expression about the experience of being a first generation immigrant, their capacity for self-awareness is what makes Wax Chattels one of New Zealand’s most treasured independent exports.

Watch their live performance of “Efficiency,” which showcases the trio band thriving in all their ferocity below.
