As they speed towards their latest tour around the country kicking off next week, torchbearers of Australian punk rock, Tired Lion, have today released a raucous live video for their latest single, ‘Where Were You?’
The video was shot in a single day on location at the Pool House Party festival at the Coburg Velodrome in Melbourne, which saw Tired Lion perform alongside the festival’s masterminds the Smith Street Band, as well as killer acts like Ecca Vandal, Bec Sandridge, Tropical F*ckstorm and Waax. The video was directed by Nick Manuel (known for Press Club’s electrifying ‘Headwreck’ video).
‘Where Were You’ is a heavy-hitting rock anthem that puts lead singer Sophie Hopes’ high-energy vocals and biting lyrics on full display over a visceral soundscape. The infectious melody and raw relatability of the track is sure to anchor any summer playlists in need of some punch, and become a highlight of their notoriously dynamic live show.
“The song dances around the idiom “sweep it up under the rug,” something everyone does,” says Hopes. “We refuse to acknowledge a situation or withhold important facts to avoid embarrassment and public scrutiny. Due to some pretty crazy circumstances, someone I really cared about couldn’t be there for me when I was younger and for some reason, I felt like I couldn’t talk about it, so I wrote a song.”
Following on from the success of 2017, Tired Lion launched into 2018 with a huge wave of momentum, playing sold out shows across regional Australia, as well as performing at festivals like Party In The Paddock and the aforementioned Pool House Party.
Now the ‘Where Were You?’ tour is set to see them tear around the country once more, and will start at the Miami Tavern on the Gold Coast on May 25, before making its way to the Sunshine Coast, and then heading to Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, before swinging back to Sydney and finishing off in Brisbane on June 9. The tour is proudly supported by triple j.
“We’re always looking for a good excuse to pack our suitcase and head off to play a bunch of shows,” says Hopes. “We’ve managed to already tick off a tour of regional Australia this year and psyched to take it to the capital cities!”
