Melbourne’s Slush, share their debut self titled EP.
On their debut EP, Slush balances positivity and anger, both musically and in the subject matter of the songs. There are tracks which are joyous power-pop bops, (‘Middle Name’), which explore the giddy feelings of having a crush, and ‘Keep Cup’, their love song to menstrual cups. Yet other songs which act as an outlet for frustrations around sexism and experiences as woman or gender non-conforming people. ‘Salty’ details personal experiences of misogynistic name-calling from men. ‘Bono’ confronts comments made by the U2 singer about modern rock music becoming too “girly”, and the problematic nature of negative attitudes towards feminity. While ‘Bleed’ is a searing punk tune outlining various misfortunes of having your period.

“Bleed” is a furious belter lamenting the misfortunes of the menstrual cycle. With scuzzy guitar, yowling vocals, frenzied drums fills and roaring bass lines, “Bleed” is their punkiest yet.
