It’s been a whirlwind two months for Slowly Slowly following the release of their single ‘Jellyfish’, with time spent as #1 most played on triple j, a national arena tour alongsideAmy Shark under their belt and a staggering headline single tour now rapidly selling. Today the four-piece are finally lifting the lid on their ‘Jellyfish’ music video, and it is every bit as playful and infectious as their adored tune.

Following a goofy, knock-about couple at a bowling alley, the video is a charming, humorous and heartfelt slice of some of Slowly Slowly’s best storytelling.

“It came together so easily and we spent the whole day laughing, front man Ben Stewart explains of the creation of the video. “As soon as we laid the music over the top of the video it immediately brought out the sentimentality of being in love and not giving a fuck what anyone else thinks.

“I think at surface level you hear the Jellyfish line in the chorus and you think ‘oh this is a dicky little song about the ocean,'”
he adds. “But if you dig a little deeper you realise it’s a song about perception and how love looks on a nihilistic backdrop – how we can pull each other out of spiralling inward. I still like the playfulness of the song though and I wanted to keep that in the video.”

The inimitable ‘Jellyfish’ marks the first taste of new music from the anthemic punk-rockers since their revered 2018 LP St. Leonards. Seizing the band at their most vulnerable and uninhibited, the track playfully toys with questions on love and existential dread in downright catchy fashion. With Stewart’s masterful lyricism front and centre as always, ‘Jellyfish’ has proven to be both one of the most endearing and commanding tracks of the year.

Joined by Perth punks Sly Withers and Canberra indies Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, Slowly Slowly will embark on a now-expanded run of headline dates celebrating ‘Jellyfish’ throughout July and August. With added shows in Melbourne and Hobart and a hefty venue upgrade in Perth, the Jellyfish Tour is shaping up to reach staggering heights.
