Sure it may only be only be July but Between You & Me have given us one of the best albums of the year. Everything Is Temporary is their debut album and is full of pop punk bangers with all of the elements we love. Featuring sing a long lyrics, acoustic moments and straight fast jams to entice any stage diver. We caught up with the Melbourne Australia based vocalist Jake Wilson to learn more about the album.

Firstly huge congrats on the new album, it’s awesome! You must be proud of how it turned out?

Jake Wilson
Thanks mate! Yeah we are all so proud of what we were able to achieve for a first album that’s for sure!

SCENEzine
What was it like filming the video for “Dakota”?

Jake Wilson
It was a pretty fun experience we got to work with some cool people and the shoot overall was pretty fun/funny and we were able to get it done in the one day.

SCENEzine
One of my favourites from the album is “Friends From 96”. How did that one come about in the writing process?

Jake Wilson
This is the song that had the most changes heading into the album after pre production. Originally the song was going to be entirely acoustic but Stevie knight (our producer) suggested the song kicking into a more upbeat full band vibe after the first chorus. I stand by our idea that the song would’ve been cool acoustic but I love Stevie’s vision of the song a hell of a lot more haha

SCENEzine
I also really gravitated towards the title track “Everything Is Temporary”. Did writing that track help you to live in the moment more these days?

Jake Wilson
When Chris first showed me the riff to this song I immediately got the idea for this song in my head and where I wanted to take it lyrically. Too me it felt like such a great song to close the album on and it’s one of my favourites on the record. I love the ending.

SCENEzine
How has your lyric writing process evolved from your first songs with the band to the new album?

Jake Wilson
Since I wrote ‘Paper Thin’ I’ve had a lot happen in my life that I was able to reflect on during the writing process of ‘Everything Is Temporary’. I found myself able to get a lot of things I wanted to express off my chest in the most creative way I could.

SCENEzine
Were there many songs written that didn’t make it onto the album?

Jake Wilson
We went into the Studio with the 10 songs that are on the album and also a couple more unfinished tracks. We ended up coming to the conclusion that they didn’t quite fit into the album as good as the rest did so we decided to leave them be.

SCENEzine
How did you decide on the album artwork?

Jake Wilson
We were working through ideas with the team at Hopeless Records and after passing a few themes back and forward and idea was put forward by ‘Megan’ with the hand holding the rose and we fell I in love with the concept and ended up using it

Later in the year you will be touring Australia with Neck Deep. You must be excited to hit the road with those guys?

Jake Wilson
Neck Deep are a great band that writes great music so we are looking forward to playing some more shows with them and also maybe learn some things along the way since they have been touring for a long time.

SCENEzine
What’s your policy when it comes to doing shoey’s?

Jake Wilson
I’ve never actually thought about this to be honest. We were playing a show in Adelaide one time and someone did a shoey out of my shoe while we were half way through the set so that was interesting. But depending on how the night is going I may or may not do one 😉

SCENEzine
Lastly are there any bucket list bands you’d love to tour with someday?

Jake Wilson
Man there are so many if I listed them all then there would be 100 but a huge one for me would be Paramore. Love love love Paramore!
