Since Northlane and In Hearts Wake hit the road together for the first time on the Discoveries Australian tour in 2011, the idea for Equinox has always been simmering away in the back of their minds, but the concept really came to life during a Canadian poolside BBQ during their North American Summer tour last year. As Jake Taylor and Josh Smith flipped veggie dogs, they reflected on the many great memories In Hearts Wake and Northlane had shared together. Both bands were at similar points in their careers and this was the crossroads for everything to be brought full circle. The result is Equinox (equal day, equal night): an all-Australian collaborative tour that completely smashes the mould of a traditional co-headline show. Expect to see both bands do guest vocals on each other’s hits and many (many) more surprises to be revealed.
“As our paths have crossed over the years the timing is finally right to embark on a co-headline tour that we’ve dreamt up together,” says In Hearts Wake’s Jake Taylor. “It’s hard to think that it all started in a ghetto garage many years ago and here we are now.”
Northlane’s Josh Smith is just as excited to jump back on the stage with his best mates: “We always want to be on the road with those guys but I think the fact that we’re both now in a pretty similar stage in our career makes it the right time to do something like this in Australia. I can’t contain my excitement for this tour. We’ve never done anything like it before and who better to be doing it with than our best mates. I’ll cherish the memories of this tour forever.”
The Equinox tour will be the first time both bands have shared the stage in their homeland since UNIFY 2015, and another significant chapter in the story of their mateship. Since meeting as young wide-eyed hopefuls doing the Youth Centre rounds many years ago, Northlane and In Hearts Wake have forged an unbreakable bond that has seen both bands achieve incredible feats here and internationally.
2015 was an incredible year for both bands: Northlane saw Node debut at #1 on the ARIA Chart while In Hearts Wake landed at #2 with Skydancer, both played to thousands of fans at sold out shows around the county and they were rewarded by the industry with ARIA nominations that saw Northlane just pipping In Hearts Wake to the finish line to take home the award.
By the time June rolls around, Hands Like Houses will feel right at home on the huge stages on the Equinox tour. While waiting for their highly anticipated new album, Dissonants, to drop, the Canberra boys have enjoyed an absolute thrashing on triple j and have been busy impressing the pants off massive crowds, playing to thousands of people at the Big Ass Tour with The Amity Affliction and UNIFY 2016.
Ever since the release of their genre bending EP, Black Label, Melbourne’s Ocean Grove have been peddling their erratic live show up and down the highways of Australia, melting minds and destroying stages for Attila, Volumes, Saviour and UNIFY 2016.
Don’t miss your chance to see Northlane and In Hearts Wake in what is guaranteed to be the most explosive collaboration in Australian heavy music history.
