Melbourne’s MOD CON have today shared ‘Learner in an Alpha’, the new single lifted from the trio’s eagerly-awaited second studio album Modern Condition, out Friday October 22.
Modern Condition is now available to pre-order on all formats here.
A hot-wired joy ride that follows recent album icebreaker ‘Ammo’, ‘Learner in an Alpha’ is an equally corrosive discombobulation of sinewy bass, surf riffs and propelling kicks of urgency.
Holding a proverbial mirror up to modern-day capitalism and global-near-sightedness, songwriter Erica Dunn spitballs sass from both the caricatured role of a devil-may-care wealthy elite and the sardonic death rattle of Planet Earth itself, as it’s knocked out of the big pool room in the sky.
Accompanying the new single is an exhilarating video from local filmmaker Sophia Mero, who weaved collage, animation and found footage with a classic touch of green-screen recordings to create a clip that takes the viewer on a road trip into a strange world.
Along the ride, we’re greeted by layers of collaged characters on the highway while deliberating on a full range of society’s detritus, as it whizzes by in our collective rearview mirror.
