Following on from a stellar set at Splendour in the Grass in 2015 and massive stadium shows with BLUR, Jamie T will return to Australia in 2017 to play headline shows alongside his Falls Festival appearances. The shows will support his recently released fourth album Trick. Joining the five-time NME award winner in both cities will be Wollongong’s Hockey Dad, and in Sydney exclusively will be local duo Polish Club. Messy and fun, Hockey Dad have just released their debut album Boronia and will be supportingJamie T in both Sydney and Melbourne. The album is full of pop-punk bursts with chunky guitars and big riffs as they collide with yowling vocals and firecracker drumming. It’s the perfect sun-streaked soundtrack for skinned-knee skate videos and beach bonfires at dusk; for staying out late and sleeping in later, only to do it all over again the next day. The duo are definitely living up to their childhood pact of becoming “the greatest band… out of Windang”. The lads were coined by Consequence of Sound as one of the “most exciting” bands at this year’s SXSW, sold-out their national Australian album tour and have just announced as playing this years Falls Festival.
Two-piece Polish Club will be joining the bill in their hometown Sydney, playing their signature blend of soul and garage scuzzy rock. Novak (guitar/vocal) and John-Henry (drums) are the loudest goddamn soul outfit you’ve ever heard. (And yes, they are both sort of Polish). ‘Beat Up’ is the latest blast of raw, crashing soul from the Sydney powerhouse and the first taste of their debut album due in 2017. Those acquainted with their six-track EP of late 2015 and its three singles ‘Able’, ‘Didn’t Somebody Tell Me’ and ‘Beeping’ will know this: you only need to hear it once to need it bad.
