Sydney alternative metal outfit Inertia have worked tirelessly over the last year to produce a body of work that showcases the quartets unstoppable talent. From the depths of 2021, Inertia emerge with news of their recent signing to Resist Records, leading the way with the release of “Hivemind” from forthcoming EP, ‘Memoria‘, out Friday March 18 via Resist Records.

Hivemind” is the first to be pulled from ‘Memoria‘ and explores the anxiety of dealing with the new world we have created through overconsumption, societal division through status and the modern day concept of capitalism. The music video mirrors a tormented and thoughtful mind, produced, directed and edited by Third Eye Visuals. Vocalist Julian Latouche puts his pop influence on show against the heavier atmosphere and worked to match the sentiment of the single with a powerful yet vulnerable vocal performance.

Latouche goes on to explain: “I was dealing with a bout of depression and anxiety dealing with the new world we were all thrown into and the world we all created. The lyrics that came out were a direct reflection of these thoughts and feelings, posing the question; ‘Through our habits and desires we’ve created an uncontrollable monster, a parasite if you will, that causes a lot of anguish and hate. And since we created it, do we have the strength to assume responsibility and eventually remedy what we have done?’“.

Written as a concept EP, ‘Memoria‘ hopes to connect with listeners on multiple levels. Tackling subjects such as revenge, hopelessness, inequality and self-identity, the record pulls the listener in with down-to-earth lyrics through the lens of a dystopian future. Inertia chose to self-produce with resident producer, engineer and guitarist Mark Williamson with additional production by Callan Orr (Dream On Dreamer, Alt) and mastering by the legendary Kris Crummett (Dance Gavin Dance, Issues, Hail The Sun).

In terms of the stylistic intent, the running joke of this EP is that we wanted it to sound like if Spiritbox and The Weeknd had a baby. Hopefully we achieved that goal,” tells Williamson.
