I Tonya is truly one of our favourite new films recently. Sure we are a little bias being that the film features Australia’s own Margot Robbie but we feel we are justified as her performance was incredible. The film is based on the true events surrounding the life of figure skater Tonya Harding and the lead up to her infamous sporting scandal involving Nancy Kerrigan.

Alison Janney gives an Oscar winning performance playing Tonya’s demanding mother. Sebastian Stan was another great casting choice as he plays Tonya’s boyfriend Jeff. Throughout the film there are many dark comedic elements in between the documentary style biopic filming. Most of all this movie will have you in disbelief that this actually happened. Sometimes real life stories can be far better than anything a writer can dream up.

Overall this film is a must see. Margot’s portrayal of Tonya was testament to her range as an actor. This was a story that needed to be told and the story was handled perfectly. For any one who remembers the media circus that surrounded the events at the time this may shed new light on what you once believed. So if you are a fan of figure skating, Margot Robbie or just great movies then be sure to check out I Tonya. The Blu-ray also features some deleted scenes and some interesting behind the scenes footage including explaining how they were able to shoot the figure skating scenes.
