I can distinctly remember the last time I saw the Avalanches it was Homebake 1999 and i along with hundreds other sweaty punters piled into the Big Top tent to see them go off. Now fast forward 18 years and they are back with a whole new album Wildflower and are playing live shows all around the country, Tonight they hit up the Enmore and they have with them a very special guest the turntable master himself the man that has inspired generation of deck techs the one an only Grandmaster Flash.

I grab a drink and head on in, the place is filling up real quick. The grandmaster walks out on stage, the joint erupts and bam he drops some beats after which he starts laying down the rules, One we make noise, Two we put our hands in the air when he plays our favourite song and we must sing it loudly out of key (lol).
To start things off he mixes up some of the best hits Michael Jackson gave us really putting us right in the mood for a good time. He would show us why he is the master as he mixes up legendary songs from the likes of David Bowie and Queen but it wouldn’t be all rock tunes getting us warmed up Flash would practically showcase a 90s hip highlights reel with tracks from Arrested Development, Aliyah and the awesome party jam of Hip Hop Hooray from Naughty By Nature. Grandmaster Flash stood up there and killed with all his talent and flare that makes him number one, he had us sing out of key, dance and most importantly raise our hands in the air.

The time had come for the main act, the Enmore was now over flowing with party people ready to have a good time it was like an Electricity was in the air. When the stage lights dim the crowd cheer out walks Spank Rock with the gorgeous Eliza Wolfgram both of whom were there to provide vocal duties, accompanied by original member Di Blasi on the keys along with a drummer and guitarist. They kick things off with the funky Because I’m Me followed by the first hit of the new album Frank Sinatra which went off, Spank Rock killing it on the rap parts and if that wasn’t already getting the place jumping they did a cover of The Clash’s Guns Of Brixton which sent this punk rocker off.

The stage and light show was spectacular with a huge video screen providing cool visual content especially when it came to crazy clips like Subways which by the way was a huge fan fav sending out real chill vibes of peace and love through out the place. The energy on stage never let up as they relentlessly went from one track to the next keeping things moving and the crowd pumping they would build the whole show up with 12 tracks of pure Avalanches goodness and then send us off with that one track we all came to hear, yea as soon as it started we were cheering, they  used a sort of slow build to disguise it slightly and then let it drop fully into familiarity and it hit us like a wave (boom!)  Frontier Psychiatrist as you can imagine went off the whole place was dancing around with such joy from the packed out floor to the people standing on their chairs in the balcony section it was a sensational way to leave us all clambering for more.

The encore starts off with one from the old school, Electricity then leading us into The Noisy Eater and after all that time we had spent waiting for this show they leave us with the fitting Since I Left You. Whether you came tonight as a fan of only the new stuff or like me you long to have relived those glory days of Homebake 1999 there was no way you left this show disappointed, you had to have had a great time the beats were electric with the vibe amazing and The Avalanches themselves 18 years later delivered a phenomenal show.
