The term “artist” is thrown around very freely, but few rappers epitomize the term better than Detroit legend Daniel Dewan Sewell, A.K.A. Danny Brown. Known for crossing a number of genre boundaries, Brown operates in a totally individual zone, bridging new and old sounds. His persona comes across as eccentric and avant-garde, largely due to his sartorial style and attention grabbing sense of humour.
Dedicated to his craft from an early age, Brown solidified his status as an emerging star in 2012 with the release of his critically acclaimed album XXX, however it wasn’t until the release of his third studio album,Old in 2013 that Brown truly entered the spotlight. Featuring massive collaborations with the likes of A$AP Rocky, Purity Ring and Schoolboy Q, Old was hailed as one of the premier hip-hop releases of 2013.
The album debuted at number 17 on the US Billboard 200, selling 15,000 copies in the first week. Soon after, Brown embarked on a massive tour across North America with partners in crime A$AP Rocky, Tyler, the Creator and Vince Staples (who is also set to hit our shores for a headline tour next month).
Brown is currently putting the finishing touches on his latest studio album, but he is also grinding away at another more unusual project: a Dr. Seuss inspired children’s book dedicated to his thirteen year old daughter.
Revisiting Australia this April, don’t miss the opportunity to see Danny Brown getting wild on his biggest Australian tour to date.
