D.D Dumbo, the musical alias of Oliver Hugh Perry, today shares the song and accompanying video for  ‘Satan’, his first new music in over two years. Wildly imaginative and skilfully executed, ‘Satan’ is an arresting track that is perfectly complemented by director Jim Elson’s compelling video. The track premiered last night on Triple J.

The video was shot around D.D Dumbo’s hometown of Castlemaine, the salt plains of north-west Victoria, and a derelict swimming pool in a tiny town near the Grampian Ranges. Jim Elson says, “we were looking for locations that were iconically Australian but that also had a strong otherworldly quality. I think it’s easy to take these environments for granted when you grow up there, so it was an exciting process to ‘discover’ them again in a different way.”

After uploading his home-recorded debut EP to Bandcamp in 2012, word about the young solo artist spread slowly but surely around the world. His highly original music incorporates indistinct elements of traditional music from across the continents, and is united by potent lyrics and an impressive voice.

D.D Dumbo’s mesmerising live show made him one of the true standout acts at the 2013 SXSW Music conference (resulting in an international deal with the iconic label 4AD). He has supported the likes of Warpaint, Tune-Yards and St Vincent at home and Tame Impala and Beirut internationally. He has also played key Australian and international festivals including Meredith Music Festival, Splendour in The Grass, Latitude (UK) and Pitchfork Paris.

Following a run of European headline tour dates (as well as a slot at the prestigious Field Day festival in London) in June, D.D Dumbo will do a short East Coast tour this July. Details of his forthcoming debut album to follow soon.
