Brisbane’s fast rising metalcore crew APATE have announced their new EP, Rage, today with the delivery of savage new single “Under My Skin”. Rage is set for release on June 25 via Human Warfare, but the band will give audiences along the East Coast a sneak peak on their upcoming tour, kicking off this evening with a sold out show in Brisbane.
Serving as the opening salvo on Rage, when you press play on the EP the intro sets the scene of disturbance to come as it ushers in “Under My Skin”. An all out aural assault of forward-thinking metalcore, “Under My Skin” takes us to the edge of sanity, seeming hellbent in its attempts to shake off the mental debris of an abusive relationship. Panicked, the downward stepping track reflects the descent of a mind disconnected from reality, and the weighty instrumentation, anxiety-inducing riffing and gritty vocals add to the feeling of being possessed by something demonic.
“Under My Skin” is a super personal one for me,” starts vocalist Caleb Patch. “Lyrically it dives into an abusive relationship I was stuck in for far too long, touching on different red flags and inconsistencies that I realised I had been rationalising and gaslit into believing. I got to use this track as some catharsis and closure to a chapter of my life that I never wish to relive.”
