Following the warmly-received release of ‘Mousetrap’, Sydney-based pop-punk quartet A Swift Farewell have today returned with their perceptive new single ‘Sunburn’.
Opening with reversed guitar and soothing synths, the resilient vocals of frontwoman Emma Mather soar fluently above layers of potent instrumentation. Lustrous guitar riffs swell and upsurge towards an emphatic chorus, where the track’s resolute lyrics convey a vicarious message about delusions, second chances and false hope.
Accompanying the release is the vivacious music video – edited by Robbie Walcott (Down For Tomorrow, Jofi, KYRK). Shot during the current COVID lockdowns in NSW, the clip combines montage footage with whimsical performances filmed at home. Featuring aminated inventiveness and several appearances of the band members’ pets, the music video is a nod to the band’s enthusiastic temperament.
Drummer Dwayne Morris talks about the creative process for ‘Sunburn’ music video:
“We initially wanted to film a live music video of us playing the song at our headline show. However, with the ever-changing situation, we had to find an alternative. Sarah, our bassist, messaged us one day and showed us a homemade green screen idea. From there, we hit up our good friend Robbie and the rest is history. It was a fun experience, especially since I got to hit my drums for the first time in god knows how long.”
