Yet again 2017 was another great year for movie releases. It was a year full of re-makes, franchise continuations, fast paced action, comedy, horror, drama and all providing great reasons to head to the cinemas and grab some popcorn.
As the year ends we take a look back and put together our SCENEzine top 10 movies of 2017 –

1. Star Wars : The Last Jedi – Sure we will be the first to admit this wasn’t the greatest Star Wars movie of all time. But it takes out the number one spot due to the number of amazing scenes throughout. It gave us some answers but also posed new questions and was a fitting tribute to Carrie Fisher.

2. Wonder Woman – Wow! DC really stepped up their game on this one. Gal Galdot kicks some serious ass. From the story line to the action sequences this was awesome.

3. Thor : Ragnarok – Marvel sure know how to make a great movie these day. Combine that with the acting talents of Australia’s own Chris Hemsworth and comedy factor of writer Taika Waitit and it made for a better than expected film.

4. Logan – Hugh Jackman is superb in this well crafted story that shows us another side to the Wolverine character. The dramatic scenes become equally as powerful as the action scenes. This is the Wolverine film we were all waiting for.

5. Spider-Man : Homecoming – Tom Holland was a great new spider-man and Michael Keaton played the perfect bad guy as Vulture. The inclusion of Iron-Man helped to tie this movie in well with the recent Marvel franchise.

6. Guardians of the Galaxy : Vol 2 – Yep those loveable guardians returned giving us plenty of action and comedy. A great sequel for some of the lesser know Marvel characters and should be watched for baby groot’s scenes alone.

7. Baby Driver – this movie took us by surprise and turned out to be a fast paced thrill ride with a killer soundtrack to boot.

8. IT – We grew up terrified of Pennywise way back in 1990. Now in 2017 the modern age of cinema has given us a whole new reason to be scared of both sewer drains and clowns. This remake was everything we had hoped for and more.

9. Justice League – This ensemble cast made for a great action film. What it lacked in story in certainly made up for in the acting performances. DC looks to be back on track.

10. War for the Planet of the Apes – Caesar returns in this long running franchise. Woody Harrelson plays a great villain and the movie itself combines stunning cinematography with an engaging story.
