Palaye Royale have been gaining attention over the last few years for their unique art rock sound and crazy live shows. In December 2018 the boys are finally making their first trip to Australia to be part of Good Things festival. With a new album under their belt and a ever growing fan base Palaye Royale have plenty to be excited about. We caught up with the bands vocalist Remington Leith ahead of their first Aussie tour.

SCENEzine
How’s 2018 rating for you?

Remington Leith
2018 is a fucking good year.

SCENEzine
I really like your new Nirvana inspired In Utero tattoo. Is that something you’ve wanted for a while?

Remington Leith
Funny enough yeah. I think it’s my all time favourite album ever made. So it means so much to me. I always wanted the angel somewhere on my body. I thought fuck it I’ll do it on my back. Sadly I can’t see it as much as I would like unless I look in the mirror.

SCENEzine
What was it like getting to be a part of the last Warped Tour this year?

Remington Leith
It was really bitter sweet. It was amazing but hot as fuck. We tried to meet every kid at every show. We couldn’t of been more honoured to be a part of it.

SCENEzine
Congrats on your new album Boom Boom Room Side B. You must be stoked to have new music out?

Remington Leith
Yeah we are very excited. The album has taken off quite a bit. It shocked us a little bit how well people are responding to it. We couldn’t be happier with the way things are going right now. We wanted this new album out for a really long time. It feels so good to finally have new music out and play new songs for the fans.

SCENEzine
What was the experience like making the video for “you’ll Be Fine”?

Remington Leith
Funny enough making that video I was the most hungover I’ve ever been in my entire life. So I couldn’t really enjoy the video as much as I’d liked to because I was so hungover from the night before.

SCENEzine
How did the song “dying in a hot tub” come about ?

Remington Leith
That one is our most meaningful song. It’s about one of our friends who has a drug problem. It sucks when you see a very good friend and you know you can’t help them. The song was definitely the hardest to record there was a lot of emotions when recording.

SCENEzine
It’s not too long until you are in Australia for Good Things Festival this December. You must be stoked to be a part of the very first one?

Remington Leith
Yeah we are pretty fucking excited. We’ve never been to Australia before, we are really stoked about going.

SCENEzine
Have you had a chance to look at the lineup to see if there’s any other bands you want to see?

Remington Leith
Yeah our good friends Waterparks are playing it. We always love seeing them

SCENEzine
Is there anything you want to don in Australia besides play shows?

Remington Leith
Our video guy told me that at a zoo I think it’s in Sydney you can have breakfast with a koala, so I’m definitely doing that I’m really excited about that. I’ve got a lot of Australian friends in LA and their favourite thing of all time is Tim Tams. So I’m excited to get some Tim Tams.

SCENEzine
Also are you aware of what a shoey is?

Remington Leith
No what is a shoey?

SCENEzine
Just pre-warning you if the Australian crowd yells shoey at you on stage then they want you to drink a beer from a shoe.

Remington Leith
Good lord, holy crap. Ok thank you for the warning (laughs). I’ll wear brand new shoes because the boots that I’m wearing now that would be the most disgusting thing.

SCENEzine
You are also playing a sideshow with Waterparks while in Australia. Are you stoked to play a more intimate show while down here?

Remington Leith
Yeah we are stoked. It’s funny we found out about that from the internet then we all hit up our manager saying is this true? No one told me about it but it should be a nice intimate show. I love playing club shows

SCENEzine
The festival also has on it Stone Sour. It must be cool for you to catch up with those guys while in Australia?

Remington Leith
Yeah I think Corey Taylor is one of the nicest human beings I’ve ever met in my whole fucking life. I’m so excited to see him and the boys from Stone Sour and catch up.

SCENEzine
You are known to be quite crazy when playing live. Will we get those type of crazy live Palaye Royale shows in Australia.?

Remington Leith
Absolutely, maybe even crazier

SCENEzine
Vocally you have quite an impressive voice. How old were you when you fisrt realised you have something pretty special?

Remington Leith
It took me a long time to realise it’s ok not to sing with such a clear voice. Because everybody my entire life always told me that I should sing more clearly and not have so much rasp in my voice. I was like fuck it I’m just going to sing how I want. I think I was about 16 or 17 when I reliased it, haven’t looked back since.

SCENEzine
Since you did work on the American Satan soundtrack do you think you’ll ever do any more work on films?

Remington Leith
Yeah I’m actually currently doing that right now. American Satan is being turned into a television show called Paradise City. I’m doing all the vocals for the TV show right now.

SCENEzine
Was it crazy to be asked to be a part of American Satan being that Andy Black was already a vocalist?

Remington Leith
Yeah it was kind of crazy because we grew up always knowing about Black Veil Brides. So it was kind of crazy when the director asked me to do the vocals for American Satan. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a lot of fun to work on the film. Andy is a great guy and a great actor.

SCENEzine
Lastly do you have a message for all your Aussie fans who are stoked to see Palaye Royale?

Remington Leith
I’m excited to meet every single one of you. Hopefully you can tell me some crazy Australian thing I need to try and eat.
