Evergreen Terrace are a melodic hardcore/metalcore band hailing from Jacksonville Florida USA. We were lucky enough to chat to guitarist Craig Chaney about their upcoming Australian tour as part of Soundwave Festival.

Firstly, thank you for your time. How has 2015 been for you so far?
A lot of injuries actually. I’ve been hobbling around trying to heal up to go on this tour.

Hope your ok. Soundwave is only a few weeks away. Are you excited about coming back to Australia.
Of course. It’s one of the best places on the planet.

Can you share any memories of previous Australian tours?
My best memory, well other than the shows being pretty nuts, I came over and stayed with some friends in Byron Bay and just got to hang out for days in Byron Bay and just kind of lived like a local. That was one of my fondest memories of Australia as it was for New Years. We try to do as much as we can when we come over to suck up as much culture as we can. Australia is one of the best places to do all of the touristy stuff like the animal parks. Also the food, man you guys have got some good food.

Evergreen Terrace are well know for some awesome cover songs. Any chance we will get to hear ‘Mad World’ or ‘Everlong’ at Soundwave?
Maybe ‘Mad World’ but for ‘Everlong’ since we are not bringing a guitar tech and that song is in completely different tuning we would have to swap. So I think it would be more practical for us to play ‘Mad World’. We haven’t decided exactly what cover we will play but ‘Mad World’ is up there. We will figure out what people want to hear then go that route.

What was it like playing Welcome to Rockville in Jacksonville, Florida, last year? How do big American festivals compare to Soudwave?
Well it’s different because it was in our home town. We’ve practically never played a festival that size in our home town. It’s also a big town but a small town. There’s not really a comparison. This year’s line-up is pretty crazy and similar to the Soundwave line-up. Soundwave 2009 tour we talk about every tour we go on. Soundwave line-up just seems more diverse. This year they are splitting up the days so we don’t get to see as many of the great bands. We are playing during Slipknot, Fall Out Boy and The Smashing Pumpkins, so we miss out on seeing them. We are still stoked though especially to see Confession, I can’t wait to check out Crafter.

Are their any other bands you are looking forward to checking out at Soundwave?
I am not completely sure what days certain bands are on. I’d like to see Ministry, Fireworks, Fucked up and Monuments. We are planning on making a list once set times are finalised then bounce around checking out some good music.

Since it was Super Bowl time recently in America did you watch the game? If so, who were you going for?
I did watch the game. I didn’t know if I was going to since it’s been a rough few years for my home state. I was rooting for the Seahawks because I can’t stand the Patriots. It’s comparable to liking the Yankees. I didn’t really care for either team but I was definitely rooting for the Seahawks. I basically kicked a whole in the wall after that one was played, a little bummed out. The commercials were great though. That’s usually the reason I watch the Superbowl.

Post Soundwave what do Evergreen Terrace have planned for the rest of the year?
Right now a US tour is being worked on and then we have some summer stuff and we are headed to Europe in the summer as well. It’s all being booked right now. We are thinking about doing an EP but we will see. The band is going through some changes though. Our drummer, Brad, is going to have a baby pretty soon so we are on the hunt to fill his big shoes. We are just trying to figure all of that out, basically.

We at Scenezine are headed over to cover Riot Fest USA later in the year. Any chance Evergreen Terrace will be on the bill?
Man, I wish! That line-up is crazy. We would love to play that festival. I think American Nightmare might be playing this year.

Lastly, thank you for your time, we are really looking forward to seeing you at Soundwave. Any last message for your Australian fans?
Come to the set and have fun with us. It should be a good time and don’t forget how to circle pit ever.
